BIRD & BECKETT CULTURAL LEGACY PROJECT

SAN FRANCISCO, California, 94131-3033 United States

Mission Statement

To cultivate, present and preserve the cultural work of San Francisco Bay Area musicians and poets, and to provide a hub for creative interaction.

About This Cause

Bird & Beckett Books & Records, founded in the Glen Park neighborhood of San Francisco in 1999, houses the 501(c)3 organization registered in 2008 as The Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project (the "BBCLP"). The BBCLP produces a literary journal, "Amerarcana" and poetry chapbooks, alongside a busy schedule of concerts and readings, focused primarily on the creative work of dedicated local cultural workers. We're known primarily for our jazz concerts, which have numbered as many as 200 a year and continue as of January 2022 to the tune of three concerts a week and two poetry events a month. An important aspect of our activity is to cultivate a local constituency willing to help us pay a "guaranteed fair wage" to virtually all of the musicians who perform here and a small stipend to the poets who read. To that end, we generally ask a cover charge of those attending the concerts and actively solicit charitable donations from individuals while pursuing grants from institutional funders. Insight into our activities can be gleaned from our website at https://www.birdbeckett.com.
