Mission Statement
The mission of the Undergraduate Women in Business (UWiB) Association is to strive towards advancing the continued progress of women in business through educating and encouraging their individual development as business professionals, and assist in the exploration of multiple career opportunities. UWiB will seek to promote greater awareness and understanding of ongoing issues and challenges that women presently face in business, while providing professional relationships with female business leaders for the undergraduate community.
About This Cause
Undergraduate Women in Business (UWiB) was founded in 2005 by Raychael Jensen and Amber Waisanen. The two met at the Foster School of Business while working on a group project analyzing the premier business schools in the United States. One common factor stood out to them about the programs at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, and other prestigious schools– each had an organization devoted to supporting undergraduate women in business. At the time, UW did not. Amber and Raychael saw an opportunity to bring the same kind of community to the Foster School. Amber and Raychael worked hard over the summer to establish Undergraduate Women in Business at the University of Washington, an organization dedicated to “connecting and preparing the next generation of female business leaders.” Today UWiB is one of the largest student run organizations in the Foster School of Business with approximately 100 annual members. Every week UWiB brings in female business leaders to share their career journey, offers workshops, networking opportunities, social events, and opportunities to visit company offices. UWiB's members represent all grade levels and all areas of business including accounting, finance, marketing, information systems, and human resources. However, all UWiB members share a deep conviction for promoting women in business and ensuring that women are represented in corporate leadership positions. With the belief that its members are UWiB's most valuable asset and a more than worthy investment, UWiB is proud to offer a scholarship to a deserving member every year. Over the past nine years, UWiB has raised over $220,000 for the Undergraduate Women in Business Scholarship Fund. UWiB is proud to currently award a $8,000 scholarship every year and looks forward to one day realizing its goal of fully funding a member's annual tuition. In January 2016, UWiB proudly celebrated its 10 year anniversary. The UWiB team looks forward to building the next decade of UWiB and continuing to connect and prepare the next generation of female business leaders.
