To foster a vibrant, resilient and sustainable food system in San Juan County, Washington.
About This Cause
Current programs include: Farmers-to-Farmland: The Ag Guild is working directly with new and existing farmers to identify individual goals and identify available farmland for production in San Juan County. In addition, this program seeks to connect farmland owners who wish to sell, lease or transfer their farmland to a farmer who will farm the land. 56 individuals were assisted with resources to begin farming and five those began farming. 21 landowners received assistance with putting their land into production. San Juan County Food Hub: an online ordering system connecting retail and wholesale buyers with San Juan County producers. Once a week aggregation and inter-island delivery to San Juan, Orcas and Lopez Island. Over 28 producers have been connected with over 300 buyers in 2020. In addition, the Food Hub works with San Juan County Health and One Canoe on food access programs for families, seniors and individuals. Island Grown in the San Juans: The Ag Guild supports over 70 members with branding, promotion, and networking of food related businesses to establish regional and local recognition for foods and farm products under the Island Grown label through online and printed materials. Brickworks: A historic rental venue in the heart of Friday Harbor. It also provides reduced rentals to nonprofits in the county, including the San Juan Island Farmers Market. The commercial kitchen acts as an incubator for businesses creating value-added products from local agriculture . Brickworks proceeds help fund Ag Guild programs. FARM Fund: Promoting the economic growth and viability of San Juan County farmers by providing micro-loans. Repayment of the loan will be in-kind food donated or sold at greatly reduced rates to food banks, senior and youth food programs, and other food access programs over a two year period at 100% of the value of the loan. In 2020, over $150,000 dollars were distributed to eleven farms.
