Mission Statement
Sunshine Nevada Passion and Purpose Our passion and purpose is to develop a sense of belonging for children and young adults with special needs. Social isolation is a crisis in the special needs community. We all have a fundamental need to belong, but it is common for children with disabilities to be bullied or shunned. Families feel isolated and kids are excluded from common social activities: no playdates, parties or sleepovers. No dates or dances. Relationships give our lives meaning, purpose and encouragement in difficult times. We grow by relating and being with others. Our goal is for them to become contributing members of our community by leading fulfilling and productive lives in the most independent way possible. Our social-skill building programs and activities within our summer camps are packed with teachable moments providing lasting benefits and continuity for steady growth in inclusive and socially accepting environments. We cultivate social inclusiveness and community, and provide opportunities for them to learn social, life and work related skills, and connect and thrive. OUR PROMISE To design specialized events and camp programs that: allow children and young adults to increase their understanding of themselves and others with similar situations. nurture social and physical skills and encourage the them to participate in a way that will enhance their quality of life and connection with their families, friends and community.
About This Cause
Summer Camps and Events for children and young adults living with autism and developmental disabilities. Sunshine Nevada is 100% volunteer-run and operated! Sunshine Nevada Camps Camp I Am, Camp TLC, and Camp Shine are free summer camps for children and young adults living with autism ages 6-25. Over the last 20 years, thousands of children have experienced summer camps and events thru Sunshine Nevada. Camps are filled with singing, dancing, laughing, love, education and social experiences. It’s a place where children and young adults with autism can be themselves and be included. The campers, and even the volunteers, would both agree that camp is one of the times they look forward to most each year. Many would say that camp has helped shape their perception on life, community, and what matters most in this sometimes hectic world.
