Mission Statement
FFAM endeavors to offer stability, strength and support to our active military and their families on an emergency and proactive basis, whether it be physical, emotional or financial on an as needed basis.
About This Cause
For Families of Active Military (FFAM) began in 2006 in response to an increasing awareness of the hardships that our military families experience and the desire to give back to those who sacrifice so much on our country’s behalf became our focus. Over the course of eight years the organization has grown from its two founders into a community-based 501c3 non-profit that raises money, plans events and coordinates hundreds of volunteers to assist military families throughout Southern California.Since 2006, FFAM has provided donations of goods and support to active duty members of the military and their families in the Southern California region. To date, FFAM has raised over $300,000 through private and corporate in-kind donations. FFAM works closely with commanders at the local military installations (specifically Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin) to identify those most in need of support. One of our most important ongoing projects is our Holiday Program for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Each year, we put together hundreds of Thanksgiving Food Boxes for needy military families stationed at Fort Irwin and Camp Pendleton. In addition, we bus 150+ soldiers and marines from Fort Irwin and Camp Pendleton who have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving to Yorba Linda, CA for a Thanksgiving feast. The feast is prepared by volunteers and supported through food and monetary donations. At Christmas time, we “adopt” needy military families at both bases to provide them a Christmas they will never forget. This includes gifts for the entire family, a food box, and grocery money. In addition, Marines and soldiers who have no place to go are again invited to Yorba Linda to enjoy Christmas Day in a home away from home. Single marines and soldiers are not forgotten as we seek donations of gift cards and personal care items to fill stocking for them. A new vision within our Mission a retreat (The Re-Entry Lodge) for our military men, women and families, where they will find love, care, concern and hope, as they re-acclimate to one another as a family after a deployment or training separation. FFAM aspires to extend its mission of service to military families by providing a retreat in the Southern California Mountains. This retreat would offer one week of rest, relaxation, recuperation and support to military families during the stressful re-entry period, at no cost to the family. FFAM will solicit donations and provide significantly subsidized lodging, food, recreational activities and support services for military families. FFAM will provide management and upkeep of the home and will work with local military facilities to determine the families in need of these services. Based on current plans, we project needing to raise approximately $100,000 to cover start-up costs and operating expenses for a six-month re-entry lodge pilot program. This figure includes six months of rent and insurance expenses for the long term rental of a large vacation home including a weekly cleaning service. We plan to establish a permanent house by the end of the pilot program. Sadly, our active military are experiencing a high rate of spousal, alcohol and drug abuse and 22 suicides per day.
