Mission Statement
TruEvolution fights for health equity and racial justice to advance the quality of life and human dignity of LGBTQ+ people.
About This Cause
TruEvolution was established in 2008 as a direct response to the lack of services targeting the specific needs of a growing LBGTQ+ Latino and African American population in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. With a mission to fight for health equity and racial justice to advance the quality of life and human dignity of LGBTQ+ people, TruEvolution has provided a wide variety of services that includes rapid testing for HIV, hepatitis‐C and syphilis, linkage to care, prevention and education, PrEP/nPEP, case management, mental health services, emergency supportive housing for people living with HIV and referrals for both HIV‐positives and high‐risk negatives. By focusing efforts on communities of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and all others who have experienced health care disparities, TruEvolution makes progress toward the elimination of those disparities over time. TruEvolution has fulfilled its mission for over fifteen years through the following programs: Emergency Housing Program: Since 2017, TruEvolution has been the sole provider of emergency housing services for people living with HIV (PLWH) in Riverside County. Executed as a hotel/motel voucher program, this program provides short-term housing to PLWH while permanent housing plans are developed. Project Legacy Transitional Housing Campus: In 2020, the agency became an affordable housing developer through a public-private partnership with Riverside Housing Authority to develop Project Legacy, a 49-bed transitional housing facility for LGBTQ+ Persons experiencing homelessness. Featuring an innovative community campus design, Project Legacy will house wrap-around services that support the care, growth and transition to sustainable independent living of LGBTQ+ Youth living with HIV (YLWH). With construction already started, the facility will open to residents beginning in May of 2023. HIV Prevention Services: As a Ryan White funded agency since 2012, TruEvolution has experience providing quality care to low-income, vulnerable populations. Services include: HIV Testing, Syphilis and HCV Testing, Condom Distribution, PrEP (navigation), linkage to care, case management, and benefits counseling. Community Programs: Youth United: As an advocacy organization, TruEvolution’s Youth United program engages in high school-based sexual health education and LGBTQ-affirming advocacy within the piloted school districts of Riverside, Alvord, Corona-Norco, Hemet, San Bernadino, Rialto, and Redlands. Our statewide and national advocacy prioritizes under-resourced jurisdictions and community organizations providing services within these communities. Behavioral Health Services: Recognizing the gaps in comprehensive, culturally-competent local behavioral health services, TruEvolution opened a behavioral health clinic in 2017. The agency offers psychotherapy, behavioral health risk assessments, support groups, peer counselors, care coordinators, and emergency trauma-response interventions with a clinical therapist. Local and State Policy Advocacy: TruEvolution State Policy Initiative is prioritized to promote health equity in California State legislative priorities to advance the mission and intention of CalAIM, Project Homekey, and other housing and homeless assistance programs in the state of California critical to people living with HIV. These initiatives recognize the necessity of spearheading diverse and innovative practices of policy research and advocacy, reaching key populations in California through multi-faceted, goal-focused approaches.
