Mission Statement
Hatchery Arts (also known as the Hollywood Fringe Festival or HFF) provides a platform for emerging, experimental and underrepresented artists to build community with one another. Through that platform, HFF makes live performances more accessible to artists and audiences alike. HFF operates as a training ground for artists to become producers and activates local neighborhoods to spur economic growth. This mission is manifested in an annual, open-access festival which celebrates freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts, hosting thousands of artists from Los Angeles and around the world.
About This Cause
History & Vision: Hatchery Arts, (also known as the Hollywood Fringe Festival or HFF) was conceived in an environment where the performing arts scene in Los Angeles had incredible momentum and passion but no real sense of place or community. As a result, artistic partnership and collaboration were stymied despite the rich arts scene in the region. Today, HFF continues to provide a cohesive environment for the local neighborhood and the artistic community. The main components of HFF’s vision are: To foster a thriving community of artists. To make performances more financially accessible, both to the artists who produce them and audience members alike. To fund underrepresented and low-income Angeleno artists’ performances. To provide a platform for new and/or experimental work to premiere, get feedback, garner reviews, and receive accolades. To teach artists to become producers, thereby developing sustainable careers beyond the Fringe. To increase diversity, inclusion, access, and community in the arts. To play an active role in supporting and connecting our local venues and businesses. These values are the bedrock of HFF, and will continue to guide and shape the organization as it grows. What we do: The Hollywood Fringe Festival (HFF) is an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. During each festival, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: Fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants, and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers. Participation in HFF is completely open and uncensored. This free-for-all approach underlines the festival’s mission to be a platform for artists without the barrier of a curating body. HFF is dedicated to promoting growth, community, and collaboration through an expansive goal to champion artists and challenge the growth of established performers. HFF boasts a positive economic impact not only for the businesses in the Hollywood community, but also for performing artists within Los Angeles. Since 2010, the festival has returned over $3.9 million dollars to the artists' community. Throughout the year, HFF continues the above mission encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurialism in the arts by training artists to become their own producers and advocates. Through our workshop series, online guides, networking events, extension awards, and other partner programs, HFF strives to create an environment where every artist has the tools to know their worth and capacity so that they may grow beyond the Fringe experience.
