Mission Statement
Many under-served neighborhoods lack access to basic pet care resources. Beyond Fences works to fill that gap. By providing free services, supplies, information and support, we honor people’s love for their pets. We proactively reach out to the community to build trusting relationships with families and make connections to keep pets happy and healthy. We believe that a lack of financial means does not equate to a lack of love for a pet, and we seek to spread this principle through a philosophy of understanding and non-judgment.
About This Cause
Beyond Fences serves pet owners living in underserved communities through four programs: Fence Program; Spay/Neuter Program; Outreach & Wellness Program; and Shelter Intervention Program. By building free fences our Fence Program frees dog living on chains and gives families and pets a safe place to strengthen their bond. Prior to building a fence, we provide free spay or neuter for each dog. We also supply each dog with a dog house, provide wheat straw during the cold winter months and tarps for shade in the summer heat. We’ve unchained over 2,200 dogs to date. Spay/Neuter is the core of our work. Through our Spay/Neuter Program, we provide free spay/neuter and vaccinations for every unaltered pet we meet. We also provide transportation to and from the spay/neuter appointments. Keeping pets healthy and reducing the number of litters born is at the very heart of our mission. So far we’ve spayed or neutered over 4,500 dogs and cats. Everything we do starts with community outreach and building relationships with pet owners. Neighborhoods with high rates of poverty lack access to pet care supplies and services so we deliver them directly to the doorsteps of people living in underserved areas through our outreach and wellness program. We become a consistent presence in the community, walking the street, talking with residents block by block about the services and resources we provide. Conducting outreach on a regular basis and becoming a trusted presence in the community helps us overcome barriers that would not be achieved with other methods and results in people sharing their positive experiences with friends and family, allowing us to reach even more people and pets. Through our Outreach and Wellness Program, we provide medical and preventative care, collars/leashes, food, indoor crates and a variety of other items. Through our Shelter Intervention Program, we assist pet owners facing the difficult decision of surrendering their pets to the shelter by assisting with pet deposits, shelter fees, and veterinary care.
