Mission Statement
Trusted Mentors connects trained, volunteer mentors with at risk adults to help more people stay housed and out of prison. We currently focus on 3 vulnerable populations: homeless or at risk of homeless, re-entering from prison or 18-24 year olds including those aging out of foster care. Volunteer mentors are provided training and on-going support to work with one person who is working to stabilize their life and achieve their goals. Trusted Mentors has a consistent success rate of over 80% remaining housed and out of prison when supported by a mentor.
About This Cause
Trusted Mentors provides trained mentors to clients of multiple agencies in Indianapolis. After a good match that considers gender, age and needs, the mentoring pair meets independently. They each commit to meet for 6 hours a month for a year to assist the mentee at obtaining their goals. Our staff then works to assure that supportive mentoring relationships occur, leading to an individual’s success in achieving economic and social stability. Trusted Mentors has successfully demonstrated that by providing trained, carefully matched and supported mentors, they can transition at risk adults, and reduce the risk of falling back into homelessness or prison. In 2020, we supported 163 mentoring relationships and of those, 99% remained housed while in contact with their mentors. In Mentoring for Successful Re-entry, 90% successfully completed, or are completing, the requirements of the criminal justice system. Mentors and mentees each gain from this mentoring relationship. Mike and Kris have been a successful match since 2014. They were matched as Kris aged out of foster care and have been together through trying times and triumphs alike. Kris recently became a father and Mike has already seen a new level of maturity and responsibility emanating from Kris. Mike has learned the struggles of youth aging out of foster care and gained a respect for those who move their lives forward. Does this opportunity interest you?
