Mission Statement
The Kenya Scholar Access Program (KenSAP) helps high-achieving Kenyan high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds gain admission to the most selective colleges in North America, all with full, need-based financial aid.
About This Cause
The Kenya Scholar Access Program (KenSAP) helps high-achieving Kenyan high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds gain admission to the most selective colleges in North America. Each year the program chooses a dozen exceptional, high-achieving students, introduces them to the American university system and its application process, and prepares them for the American SAT exams. Since its founding in 2004, KenSAP has helped place 236 students at highly competitive US and Canadian colleges, all with full, need-based financial aid. To date, of the 236 students who have so far matriculated, 230 either have graduated or are making timely progress toward graduation. More than a dozen are pursuing doctoral degrees at such universities as Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, and U.Va., and more than 50 are back in Kenya, mostly working for NGOs or multinationals or developing their own tech startups. With their potential impact on Kenya in mind, KenSAP has also started a Career Development program to support KenSAP Scholars in their professional pursuits during their college years and in their early-stage careers.
