Citizens' Climate Education Corp. educates members of Congress, the media, Citizens' Climate Lobby volunteers and the public about solutions to climate change.
About This Cause
Citizens’ Climate Education Corp (CCEC) CCEC educates the media, the public, especially community leaders, influential people and Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) volunteers. CCL’s purpose is to build the political will for a livable world. We believe politicians respond to political will, they do not create it. CCEC uses the methodology of RESULTS, a hunger and poverty citizens lobby, which started over 30 years ago. At that time, Congress budgeted approximately $25M annually to humanitarian foreign assistance in these categories: AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and micro-credit. Today, for those same categories, Congress appropriates $3.8 billion annually. RESULTS volunteers played a big role in that increase. If you ask a member of Congress why they retained that level of funding during the recent recession they will point to RESULTS volunteers. Our founder, Marshall Saunders, was a RESULTS volunteer. Two very special things emerged from his work with RESULTS. First, he had a critical hand in organizations that originated over five million microcredit loans. Much of this work has been done in Southern Asia and Latin America. Marshall is a recipient of the Grameen Humanitarian Award. The second thing that emerged was Citizens’ Climate Education Corp and Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Through our education entity, Citizens’ Climate Education Corporation (CCEC), we train a growing, grassroots network of CCL volunteers. More than 170 US chapters of CCL volunteers are working in concert to build public and legislative support for a carbon tax. CCEC trains and supports chapters of volunteers to become effective advocates for climate change legislation. Support includes monthly group meetings, national conference calls with expert guest speakers, editorial packets, and uniform actions across the country.
