Mission Statement

Our Climate empowers young people to advocate for the science-based, equitable and intersectional climate justice policies that build a thriving world. We engage and train youth from affected communities and groups to participate in broad and diverse advocacy coalitions. Together, we build deep partnerships, mobilize, and center those most impacted by climate change to dismantle systemic oppression and achieve systemic change.

About This Cause

Our vision is to engage and empower young leaders to eliminate greenhouse gas pollution and achieve a transition away from an extractive, profit-based economy towards one that is equitable and regenerative to build a thriving world. Our organization was founded on the belief that young people can achieve climate justice solutions through creative action. We provide young adults with comprehensive support to advance climate justice. Our training programs and support networks serve to give voice to younger generations, build opportunities for intentionally ignored groups, and lead to concrete climate action. As the fight to mitigate climate change will continue far into the future, it is critical that young people are prepared and empowered to protect vulnerable communities and create a swift, just transition to cleaner energy. Our team supports and mentors young people from communities throughout the country via our state and federal youth leadership development programs. Our field organizers in Massachusetts, New York, Florida, Oregon, Washington, and Washington, D.C. support young people to motivate their local communities and meaningfully collaborate with local groups and coalitions on aligned climate justice campaigns. In 2021, Our Climate mobilized 10,412 young leaders to become powerful advocates for equitable, science-based climate policy in their communities, held 142 events and trainings to help spread awareness of climate justice, and completed over 40,000 legislative actions to build momentum for climate justice policy. Over the coming year, Our Climate is focused on winning science-based and equitable climate policy in states across the country while developing the next generation of climate leaders. Our team will work to expand the climate justice movement by building power in communities across our programs through youth leadership development work, coalition-building, investing in mental health & resilience tools, and offering opportunities to lead and contribute to creative art projects. With a focus on advancing intersectional climate justice solutions, the coalitions we are a part of, and support our youth leaders to contribute to, are diverse and represent environmental organizations, businesses, faith groups, healthcare professionals, and BIPOC communities. We provide young people with opportunities to collaborate with coalition members to organize their communities, pitch media pieces, and connect with decision makers. Our Resilience as Resistance program brings together diverse licensed mental health providers with young leaders in the climate movement to discuss their feelings, resilience, and coping mechanisms.
