Mission Statement
Blossom Projects mission is to empower youth and their families in socially marginalized communities of India to build lives of financial, physical, and social well-being. Our programs support Indian Dalit youth to reach their full potential and excel and lead through education and social entrepreneurship.
About This Cause
We deliver on our mission through three strategic areas: education and core skills, leadership and entrepreneurship, and health literacy and access. We are committed to student-centered education, individual excellence and healthy families. We have been running our programs on the ground since 2014, and operate intensive boys' and a girls' residential programs. Our programs serve disenfranchised Dalit and so-called tribal youth, addressing the emotional and physical safety of our students, helping them to grow in confidence and self-expression. Our curriculum emphasizes communicative English, public speaking, computer skills, the arts and academic mastery. Our students practice public speaking and they lead their own monthly cultural program to develop creativity and to find their voice. They build their own academic foundations in challenging subject areas including basic literacy and remedial skills, and they master a variety of subject areas through individual tutoring, group study sessions and small class instruction, where they set their own personal study goals. We have designed our own literacy program to meet our students’ individual learning challenges, providing academic preparation for them to return to their studies at grade level. Students have access to a library for daily reading time, they study at special workshops with visiting global teachers, and they learn practical skills such as stress management, time management and non-violent communication. They develop their own unique academic and creative talents and receive the encouragement they need to return to school and address the problems in their families and in their communities, with innovation and creativity.
