Mission Statement
The Jakara Movement is a grassroots community-building organization working to empower, educate, and organize Punjabi Sikhs, and other marginalized communities; to advance their health, education, and economic, social, and political power.
About This Cause
Focusing on youth-development, the Jakara Movement specializes in connecting with families from diverse, rural, urban and hard-to-reach communities. Serving at the interstices of education, health and social justice, the Jakara Movement has been facilitating social change through cultural engagement – and promoting education, research, and community outreach initiatives – for nearly 15 years. We promote health access, education through service-learning, and inspire activism, volunteerism, and civic engagement. The Jakara Movement offers linguistically and culturally integrated services designed to meet the specific public health needs of Punjabi-American communities throughout the United States, with an emphasis in California.
