Mission Statement
The mission of the Asian Pacific Health Foundation (APHF) is to advance health and wellness for the vulnerable groups in San Diego by providing health education and free community health screenings for hepatitis B and C, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol disorders, osteoporosis and vision health at community centers.
About This Cause
Asian Pacific Health Foundation (APHF), originally named the Asian Pacific Health Center, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established nearly two decades ago with the overall mission to advance health and wellness for the vulnerable groups in San Diego County by providing health education and free community health screenings. Since its inception, APHF has worked with the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community to conduct monthly health screenings throughout San Diego. Many of these areas have high rates of TB, e.g. National City, Linda Vista, and City Heights. Community outreaches have been conducted at various locations, including churches, temples, schools, and community centers. APHF has a long standing history working within the API community (e.g., Vietnamese, Filipino, Pacific Islanders, Laotians, Hmong, etc.), collaborating with educational partners (UCSD faculty, pharmacy/medical students, and undergraduate students) and professional organizations (e.g., Vietnamese Physicians Association, Vietnamese Federation of San Diego, Lions Club International, etc.). APHF also serves on coalitions to work towards a variety of public health goals, e.g. National Task Force on Hepatitis B with Focus on Asians and Pacific Islander Americans, and the Hep B United. APHF’s focus is to improve the health of underserved San Diego residents through disease prevention and early detection. Our work has focused on viral hepatitis and other chronic diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol disorders, hypertension, metabolic syndrome and osteoporosis. APHF recently expanded our scope to include latent tuberculosis infection / tuberculosis (LTBI/TB) education, as well as Hepatitis B screening and education
