Mission Statement

The VA-NGO Network’s mission is to lead effective collaborations and strengthen the humanitarian, cultural, and development work by delivering capacity building workshops to underserved communities.

About This Cause

The basic principles to guide our endeavor are transparency, accountability, effectiveness and sustainability. Our program activities and specific elements in programs will be designed to promote a combination of these principles. The selection of these principles is itself derived from our deep belief that these pillar principles provide the common higher ground for engaging our communities here in the US as well as in Vietnam towards the development of a just and thriving society. The VA NGO Network has four interconnected primary goals: • Capacity Building: Strengthen our own organizations, including the Network organization, which are dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged Vietnamese • Inter-Organizational Communications & Community Awareness: Build strong ties between our organizations to share information, to collaborate on projects & community-building activities and to raise the Vietnamese American community awareness in its impacts through effective charitable efforts • Advocacy: Build an organized representation so that VA NGOs as a sector can effectively work with the US and Vietnamese governments, funders and international partners on the policy-level so to foster diaspora philanthropic contributions towards the development in Vietnam • Partnership: Engage our Vietnamese counterparts to bolster common heritage ties and build the foundation for sustainable improvements in the livelihood of communities The Network currently has 2 initiatives 1) HIPE – Healthy Initiatives through Peer Education Our goals consist of • Building healthy communities through capacity building in youth development; • Reducing burden of preventable diseases through health education and interventions; • Advancing students for professional development in community development and public health fields. HIPE is centered on an innovative peer-education model for school-aged youths that infuses creative teaching and leadership training in health education, disease prevention, disaster prevention, and community mobilization within Vietnam’s poorest communities. Additionally, HIPE is heavily grounded on the principles and practical applications of community development. Hence, HIPE empowers young people through leadership training, life skills development, community activism & mobilization, and self esteem/self-worth identification & development in the greater context of life challenges & societal issues. Specifically HIPE trains students, youths, and community members to collectively address the high distribution of preventable diseases and to empower them with knowledge and skills to make healthy, sustainable, and safe choices. 2) Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. In order to realize our mission, VANGO Network partners with a number of organizations to carry out its activities & programs, including: Viets4Afghans - Refugee Relief, Music Bridge - Cultural Performing arts, Our1World - Environment Sustainability, RONG - Roles of the Next Generation, SEED Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.
