Our mission is to provide financial assistance to young adults diagnosed with cancer and to fund innovative cancer treatments and research.
About This Cause
DAM-Cancer Mission To provide financial assistance to young adults diagnosed with cancer and to fund innovative cancer treatments and research. Since July of 2009, the Dam-Cancer Foundation has provided more than 100 financial grants to young adult cancer patients. These appreciative young adults battling cancer have been able to continue their treatments because the Foundation has assisted them with transportation costs, housing, food, insurance premiums, dental expenses as well as medications and supplies not covered by insurance. Our Roots DAM-Cancer was established in December of 2008 in honor of Dave Maddan whose life was cut much too short as a result of complications related to the treatment of osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone). David (better known by his nickname, Pooh) was a wonderful son, grandson, brother, uncle, fiancé, coach and friend. Among the many challenges he faced during his battle with cancer, was leukemia resulting from chemotherapy. Pooh died unexpectedly on October 25, 2008 at the age of 28 after a blood vessel, believed to have been weakened by all his treatments, burst in his chest. Dave dreamed that a cure for cancer would finally be discovered and, in the meantime, that better treatments for this insidious disease would become commonplace. David had become passionate about establishing a non-profit foundation to assist other cancer patients as soon as he completed his own treatments. His proposed foundation would have a two-fold purpose: to provide financial assistance to help young adult cancer patients, ages 18-35, receive the best therapy possible and to support research for targeted delivery cancer treatments, which would have fewer and less serious side effects than traditional chemotherapy. DAM-Cancer is dedicated to realizing Dave’s dream and to keeping his memory and legacy alive.
