Mission Statement
The Friends of Little Miami State Park (FLMSP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes health and wellness by providing a safe, environmentally friendly place to exercise and develop lifelong healthy habits. The primary mission of the “friends group” organization is to ensure a safe, well-maintained multi-use trail as an integral part of the Little Miami recreational corridor while protecting/conserving natural resources and the environment.
About This Cause
The 50-mile long Little Miami State Park with its 9’ asphalt trail has been an integral part of this community’s (and this region’s) recreational infrastructure since 1983. This multi-use trail winds through Hamilton, Clermont, Warren, and Greene counties, and has major access points in Newtown, Milford, Loveland, Morrow, Corwin, Waynesville, Spring Valley, and Xenia with a combined population of 51,000. Adding the populations of Greater Cincinnati and Greater Dayton, over 3,000,000 people have convenient access to the Little Miami State Park or one of its feeder trails. The Friends of the Little Miami State Park was organized in March 2009 in response to a critical safety issue when a number of bicyclists were injured as a result of slippery conditions on the wooden bridges. Through the efforts of the FLMSP the bridges were subsequently paved thus preventing further accidents. Trail safety continues to be a primary focus of the FLMSP. By increasing visibility at traffic crossings, repairing surface cracks, cleaning debris from culverts, repaving sections of trail, and keeping the trail clear of debris caused by storms, the efforts of FLMSP has greatly reduced incidents of personal injury.
