Serving nearly 60,000 members, PCOS Challenge: The National Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association is the largest 501(c)(3) public charity advancing the cause for women, girls and others with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a serious genetic, metabolic, hormonal and reproductive disorder that affects 10-15 percent of women in the U.S. It is one of the most critical, underserved, under-diagnosed and underfunded areas of health that can lead to lifelong complications, infertility, type 2 diabetes, endometrial cancer, stroke, cardiovascular disease, liver disease and other life-threatening conditions.

PCOS Challenge: The National Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association is the leading nonprofit support and advocacy organization for people with PCOS. PCOS Challenge has six major program areas including: - Research - Awareness - Education - Patient support and empowerment - Health policy - Access to care PCOS Challenge hosts the largest national campaigns dedicated to education and raising awareness and funds to help fight PCOS. PCOS Challenge started World PCOS Day and is the sponsoring organization for PCOS Awareness Month. ABOUT POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME (PCOS) ----------------------- PCOS is a serious genetic, hormone, metabolic and reproductive disorder that affects up to 15 percent of women in the U.S. and over 20 percent in some parts of the world. PCOS HEALTH RISKS ----------------------- People with PCOS are at increased risk for infertility, pregnancy complications, type 2 diabetes, endometrial cancer, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, anxiety and depression, sleep disorders, and other serious conditions. PCOS is the most common endocrine (hormone) disorder and cause of infertility in women. Many health risks associated with PCOS can be mitigated or avoided with proper screening, treatment, management, and lifestyle changes. However, early detection, intervention, and appropriate self-management are key.
