Mission Statement
The Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, a statewide nonpartisan organization, aims to reduce teen pregnancy through research, advocacy, collaboration and training. Our vision is that every Texas teen has access to the information and resources needed to prevent unintended pregnancy.
About This Cause
Founded by a volunteer board of directors in 2009, the Texas Campaign has evolved into an Austin-based, statewide hub of diverse stakeholders passionate about our mission. We excel at developing innovative, collaborative and sustainable systems-level solutions. Teen childbearing is both a cause and consequence of poverty. Early and unintended childbearing can make it harder for youth to fulfill their academic potential, achieve their career aspirations, and build healthy families. Taking steps to address high teen birth rates in Texas has the potential to reduce high school dropout rates, improve college completion and overall educational attainment, boost tax contributions through higher earnings, and reduce public spending on Medicaid births. Most importantly, empowering adolescents to determine whether and when to become parents can help strengthen families, improve child wellbeing, and support young people in achieving their goals. We address systemic reasons that teens lack access to sexual health information and contraception. We support direct service providers, focusing on nonpartisan advocacy and building the capacity of adult stakeholders to empower young Texans. Our strategies include: Research and Data: Analyze and disseminate data on teen pregnancy, teen birth, and other adolescent health indicators, including prevention strategies. Advocacy and Public Policy: Advocate for public policies that increase young Texans’ access to knowledge and healthcare to prevent unintended pregnancy. Collaboration: Partner with others across the state to leverage local and regional resources with statewide systems change. Training and Events: Ensure our partners learn from one another and access resources.
