Mission Statement

Providing temporary shelter and a pathway to self-sufficiency for the homeless in Isabella County

About This Cause

The Isabella County Restoration House (ICRH) is a temporary, emergency homeless shelter that serves homeless individuals and families, in Isabella County. The ICRH is a relatively young organization that has grown and expanded to offer services for homeless individuals that include temporary emergency shelter, advocacy and education for connection with community-based resources, and assistance to guests that will assist them in achieving and sustaining self-sufficiency. The shelter "season" is between late October and mid-April each year. At this time, there are only enough resources to keep the shelter open for approximately 6 months per year. Between October 29, 2018 and April 22, 2019, the ICRH served 261 homeless individuals, 61 of which were children under the age of 10 years old. The ICRH took in 25 total families, averaged 30 homeless guests per night, filled over 5,500 beds of emergency shelter, and served over 5,700 hot meals. In 2017, the ICRH opened a day shelter that allows not only for a warm/safe place for homeless guests to be during the day but, also a place to locate and connect to critical community-based resources that can assist them in getting back on their feet. The ICRH partners with 25 local churches who serve as the "host site" of the shelter for one week at a time during the shelter season. Each week, the ICRH loads up materials and moves to a different church in a "rotating shelter" model.
