Mission Statement
The School Fund is a crowdfunding platform that allows anyone to invest in promising but underprivileged children in low-income countries and help them achieve an education. TSF makes it possible for anyone to donate as little as a dollar. One hundred percent of TSF donations to students go directly to covering school expenses. The School Fund’s website allows students and donors to communicate directly with one another. Donors learn about the lives of students with vastly different backgrounds to theirs and see the impact they are having first-hand. We believe that education is the greatest tool to reduce poverty. Each year of education is equal to a 10 percent wage increase. Each additional year of average secondary or university-level education within a country increases national output by 19 percent. We envision a world where all students have access to education so that they can build a better foundation for themselves. The School Fund exists to serve them.
About This Cause
The School Fund (TSF) is a crowdfunding platform that enables anyone to invest in promising but underprivileged children in low-income countries and help them achieve an education. Our crowdfunding platform makes it possible for anyone to donate as little as a dollar toward students’ educational scholarships. One hundred percent of TSF donations to students go directly to covering school expenses. We believe that education is the greatest tool to eradicating poverty. Each year of education is equal to a 10 percent wage increase. Moreover, secondary education is crucial for building a capable workforce. Each additional year of average secondary or university-level education within a country increases national output by 19 percent. We understand that our students need special attention and support. They face many adversities and are often the first person in their families to achieve an education. Further, we understand that the regions we work in vary in their opportunities and challenges. The School Fund works with carefully vetted NGO Partners in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America who have strong ties to the communities where they operate, a vision for educational impact, a systematic process for identifying students with financial barriers, and the ability to support and monitor students’ progress. We look for NGO partners who not only help students pay for school but also provide mentorship and tutoring programs, as well as assistance with transitioning from secondary school to a livelihood or to a vocational or university program. The School Fund’s website allows students and donors to communicate directly with one another. Donors learn about the lives and dreams of students with vastly different backgrounds to theirs and see the impact they are having first-hand. Students learn that outside their villages and neighborhoods, there are supporters invested in their success. Through our work: * Thousands of children in the developing world will become educated and will have the resources they need to build a better foundation for themselves and their families. * Increasing numbers of children will be empowered to address the problems in their communities and help lift their communities out of poverty. * Donors will continue to give to students because they will see the direct link between their investment and the positive changes in the lives of these children. Our work has been featured in The Economist, Christian Science Monitor, Fast Company, GOOD Magazine, The Huffington Post, ONE Campaign, Babble, TakePart Live, and was recognized by President Bill Clinton with a Clinton Global Initiative University Outstanding Commitment Award.
