Mission Statement

Our mission is to facilitate healing for victims of sexual assault and their families through on-going crisis intervention services; to promote community awareness of the Center’s services; to educate our students and community about the nature of sexual assault – in terms of prevention as well as the need for support to its survivors; and, to foster strong partnerships with all agencies involved in dealing with sexual assault. We offer a 24-hour crisis hotline, courtroom & medical accompaniment, on-site sexual assault examinations, community awareness & prevention education, crisis intervention, professional counseling, and referrals for survivors of sexual assault, stalking, teen dating violence, and human trafficking. Not only do we support the survivor, but we also provide support for the entire family during this healing journey.

About This Cause

Sexual violence is a public health issue that is preventable, but yet it is the most under-reported crime in the state of Georgia and in the United States. It is estimated that 1 out of every 6 women and 1 out of every 33 men has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. Not only does sexual assault effect individuals, but it also effects their family members. According to Rainn.org, a majority of child victims are 12-17. Of victims under the age of 18: 34% of victims of sexual assault and rape are under age 12, and 66% of victims of sexual assault and rape are age 12-17. The above statistics and our current clientele has inspired us to bring families together and volunteer for fundraisers and community events. This gives us the opportunity to educate children and parents regarding sexual assault, child abuse, teen dating violence, and human trafficking. We believe that education starts in the home and by educating our volunteer parents/families we have the opportunity to break the silence surrounding sexual violence in our community. On September 22nd, 2018, we are holding a Car Show at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. The 3rd Annual Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Center Car Show is a family oriented, tri-county wide community event. Car clubs from all around Northwest Georgia come together to raise awareness about sexual violence in our communities. The Car Show attendees have an opportunity to win trophies from several categories. Other vendors and local support also come together to support this event. Attendees will also can participate in a silent auction with items from our area, such as gift cards, tickets, and sports merchandise. We recruit family volunteers in order to educate parents and children regarding child abuse, sexual assault, teen dating violence, and human trafficking. This is the fundraising event of the year for the Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Center. Money raised during this event will go directly to our emergency medical care and counseling services. We are also using this event as an opportunity to educate our community. We believe that success is measured by the number of families educated and the change we see in our community surrounding sexual violence. The more families we get involved, the more information is given and learned; the more change is possible in the community. We invite you to join us as a sponsor for this event. By being a sponsor, you will be promoting your company to a group of individuals who are very loyal to its sponsors, as well as to the many area professionals who will be participating in the 3rd Annual Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Center Car Show. Companies and individuals like yourself who make resources available enrich the lives of sexual assault victims in Catoosa, Dade, and Walker counties and, for that, we are forever grateful.
