FCT renounces all forms of discrimination and racial injustice and strives to create an inclusive and diverse community of hope.

About This Cause

Facing Cancer Together provides cancer support, caregiver support, diagnosis specific networking, and bereavement groups. We believe that people cope with cancer through different ways of expressing themselves: spoken words, written words, and creative artistic expression. We help them to plan their lives through practical educational programs and living well through community – understanding that they are not alone. FCT was started in 2009 by seven clinicians who had worked at The Wellness Community of Greater Boston (TWC), an organization that provided cancer support services. FCT's early beginnings were prompted by the precipitous closure of TWC in February 2009. This abrupt closing left a void for many people with cancer. TWC closed its doors for good on a Friday. With a sense of urgency, dedication and commitment, the founding staff of FCT opened its doors the following Monday... not missing one group session! Facing Cancer Together became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2009, and was supported through private donations and the clinical staff generously donating their time and expertise for the first year. As the COVID-19 pandemic spread exponentially throughout the world in March 2020, Facing Cancer Together prioritized the health and safety of our community, including our clinical staff, by closing the 410 Washington Street space and transitioning to providing all services online via HIPAA compliant Zoom. While the challenges associated with coping with a cancer diagnosis have existed prior to the pandemic, it was clear that grief and fear of the unknown were deeply amplified by the abrupt introduction of COVID-19 into all aspects of our lives. By expanding outreach efforts to all of Massachusetts, with a particular focus on communities of color, Facing Cancer Together created a new online space that held and supported the multiplicity of experiences that cancer patients, families, and those grieving the loss of a loved one go through as they seek solace and support in our community of hope.
