Mission Statement
Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation is the 501(c)3 Type-I supporting foundation for Bosma Enterprises (Indiana-based). Bosma Enterprises' mission is to create opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired. As a supporting foundation, nearly 90 percent of all funds raised go to support vision rehabilitation training or employment placement services for people who are blind or visually impaired at Bosma Enterprises.
About This Cause
Established in 1915, Bosma Enterprises works to accomplish this mission through a combination of organizational employment in any of its mission-driven lines of business and vision rehabilitation programs. Bosma's programs are designed to adapt to the needs, abilities, and goals of each individual, which helps them to be independent and self-sufficient. Bosma Enterprises is the largest employer of people who are blind or visually impaired in the State of Indiana, directly impacting the more than 70% unemployment rate experienced by people who are blind nationwide. According to the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), “It is estimated that as many as 10 million Americans are blind or visually impaired.” Of these individuals, it is estimated that roughly 1.3 million are legally blind (defined as central visual acuity less than 20/200 in the better eye with the best possible correction or a visual field of 20 degrees or less). According to the American Foundation for the Blind, it is estimated that 156,894 Hoosiers experienced vision loss in 2015. Since 2006, Bosma has provided the following programs: Center-Based Services, Community-Based Services, Community Employment Services, and the Student Training and Employment Program. These programs serve more than 1,500 people yearly. Your support will help to ensure that no individual, blind or visually impaired, is turned away from employment and rehabilitation opportunities.
