Mission Statement

Horn Aid Foundation (HAF) is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of those who have been most affected by the ongoing crises in the Horn of Africa. As a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization, we pursue relief and developmental projects, programs, and activities that are critical to the well-being of communities in this region. Our mission is rooted in a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life in underdeveloped areas, with a focus on empowering communities across the Horn of Africa to build a more sustainable and prosperous future. HAF operates across Eastern Africa, providing comprehensive humanitarian aid in areas most affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters. We prioritize relief efforts in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, where the need for assistance is often most acute. Our work in these camps includes the provision of basic necessities such as food, clean water, shelter, and medical care. In addition, we offer psychosocial support to help individuals and families cope with the trauma of displacement. Education is a cornerstone of our mission. We believe that empowering the youth with knowledge and skills is essential for the long-term development of the region. HAF provides educational oversight to ensure that children and young people in these communities have access to quality education, even in the most challenging circumstances. We support the establishment and maintenance of schools, provide learning materials, and work with local educators to create a safe and conducive learning environment.

About This Cause

Horn Aid Foundation (HAF) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization established in 2009, headquartered in Minnesota, USA. Driven by a commitment to profoundly impact the lives of those most affected by the ongoing crises in the Horn of Africa, our mission focuses on delivering both relief and development initiatives crucial to the well-being of the region's communities. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life in underdeveloped areas and empowering communities across the Horn of Africa to build a sustainable and prosperous future. Our operations span Eastern Africa, where we provide critical humanitarian aid in regions hardest hit by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters. Our relief efforts are particularly concentrated in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, addressing urgent needs such as food, clean water, shelter, and medical care. In these challenging environments, we also offer psychosocial support to help individuals and families cope with the trauma of displacement. Education is a central pillar of our mission. We believe that empowering youth with knowledge and skills is essential for the long-term development of the region. HAF ensures that children and young people have access to quality education even in the most difficult circumstances. This includes supporting the establishment of schools, supplying educational materials, and working closely with local educators to create a safe and effective learning environment. Since 2009, HAF has funded a library (from in-kind communities in Minnesota) in Galdogob, Mudug, Somalia. This library serves as a crucial resource for the local community, providing access to books and learning materials that foster literacy and support educational advancement. The empowerment of women is another cornerstone of our work. Women in the Horn of Africa often face the harshest impacts of conflict and hardship, yet they remain the backbone of their communities. HAF is dedicated to empowering women by providing access to education, vocational training, and income-generating opportunities. We also advocate for women's rights and work to ensure that women have a meaningful voice in community decision-making processes. Through our comprehensive approach, HAF aims to alleviate immediate suffering while laying the groundwork for long-term development and self-sufficiency in the Horn of Africa. By addressing both urgent humanitarian needs and systemic challenges, we strive to create a foundation for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
