Mission Statement
Providing equitable access to nutritious food, with dignity, to those in the community facing food insecurity.
About This Cause
We envision a hunger-free community. Hunger disparities affect all cultures and are rooted in the inequalities of those with the least social, economic, and political power. We confront these inequities through policy and service related to access. Our overarching philosophy is to provide dignified assistance to those seeking our services. Through policy we ensure access by serving anyone that comes through our doors who may be hungry or facing food insecurity. We believe that no one should go hungry, feel judged, fearful or embarrassed to seek our services. Through service we ensure access to nutritional foods through our food pantry and Kid’s Backpack Program. We distribute this food through a market-style shopping model, a delivery-model to our home bound clients (and COVID-19 Safety protocol), and school partnerships. We also provide support services when needed. The Food Pantry - Our core focus is to ensure nutritional food is accessible to those hungry or food insecure. We provide fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and seafood, cheese and dairy, and non-perishable items. Providing nutritious foods supports adults who may suffer from chronic health issues, such as heart disease and diabetes. For our children, nutritious food allows for healthy growth and development. We also subscribe to a texting app to communicate (in three different languages) with our client households to ensure any dietary needs or culturally specific foods are met. We are also finding that clients with kids that are learning from home due to COVID-19 are needing additional food to support their children. Kid’s Backpack Program – A micro-program out of the food pantry is the Kid’s Backpack program which provides weekend food sacks that contain breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and snacks for two days for at-risk children within the Bonney Lake School District. Having access to healthy foods allows for children to have the necessary vitamins and minerals to meet physical and cognitive milestones, positive social interactions, and less behavioral or health issues. Support Services - We offer support services to our clients who may need specialty needs; such as, referrals, diapers, toiletries, dog or cat food, and sleeping bags and other essentials for homeless clients.
