About This Cause
Jesus Project Ministries is a faith-based organization based in the neighborhood of Hollygrove, New Orleans. We are committed to transforming lives through our Christ-centered programs and services. Our work is rooted in the belief that every individual has a divine purpose, and everything we do is centered on bringing that purpose to fruition. Strategy Jesus Project Ministries' overarching strategy is to create a supportive and nurturing environment where individuals can discover and fulfill their unique, God-given purpose. This strategy, rooted in Christian values, addresses both the spiritual and practical needs of the community. By offering a diverse range of programs and services, the ministry seeks to: • Empower Individuals: Provide educational support, leadership training, and personal development opportunities to help individuals realize their potential. • Foster Spiritual Growth: Integrate biblical teachings and Christian principles into all programs to nurture faith and spiritual development. • Strengthen Community: Build a sense of community through outreach events and activities that promote unity, support, and fellowship. • Holistic Support: Address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals to ensure comprehensive care and growth. Jesus Project Ministries endeavors to be a seamless integration of faith-based principles with practical life skills and academic support. We create a continuum of care that supports individuals from youth to adulthood, always emphasizing their value as God’s creation. Programs and Services Apple Street Learning Center – Tutoring Children of All Ages Description: 54% of K through 3rd graders in Louisiana were reading below their grade level in the 2023-24 school year, according to a 2024 news release from the State Board of Education. The Apple Street Learning Center provides free after-school tutoring to over 90 students annually. We focus on improving reading and math proficiency and learning independently. Additionally, the ASLC provides one-on-one tutoring, access to nationally recognized reading and math programs (Lexia Core 5 and IXL Math), technology, school and project supplies, as well as healthy snacks and meals to children and youth of all ages and races. Objective: Improve reading and math proficiency, and independence in learning, provide access to technology and tutors, provide healthy after-school snacks and take-home meals, and assist students as they prepare for post-secondary education and careers. Junior Student Training and Enrichment Program (JSTEP) Description: A year-round program for youth aged 13-18 that offers leadership training, financial literacy instruction, and summer camp employment opportunities to 35 teenagers. JSTEP includes summer employment for 20 students as Summer Camp Counselors, leadership development, a leadership retreat, mentorship, various community-focused outreaches, field trips, and outings. This program offered in the Hollygrove-Leonidas community helps youth of color get their first jobs. Black youth are employed at a 4% lower rate than white teens nationally. Objective: Develop leadership skills and help youth discover their God-given talents, help them graduate from high school, and launch their post-secondary education or careers. Young Adult Development and Internship Program: Description: To support the transition of young people from adolescence to adulthood, the program targets young adults aged 19 to 23. This includes graduates from the JSTEP program, college students both local and from other areas, and young adults from the neighborhood. The Internship program is a paid opportunity during the summer. It helps individuals learn more about the inner workings of nonprofits and provides senior staff to help supervise and train the JSTEP camp counselors. Objective: To Equip young adults aged 19 to 23 with the necessary tools for successful transitions into higher education, entrepreneurship, and early career stages, fostering spiritual and professional growth, as well as personal development. Super Summer Bible Camp Description: A free nine-week camp providing screen-free activities, Bible literacy, arts and crafts, games, and team-building exercises. The camp is uniquely staffed by JSTEP leaders from the local community and college students from across the country, creating a diverse and dynamic environment. Fifty children attend the camp during the summer. In addition to building children up spiritually, we also provide for their nutritional needs by providing snacks and take-home lunch bags. Objective: Teach Biblical literacy, inspire creativity through arts, foster respect for individuals and their differences, build self-esteem, and teach teamwork and leadership skills within a safe and nurturing environment. Additionally, provides JSTEP leaders and college interns with hands-on leadership experience in a faith-based setting. Senior Care Description: Monthly gatherings for Bible study, lunch, art projects, and fellowship for 20 local seniors. Also, includes small home improvement projects completed by visiting mission teams. Objective: Provide companionship, spiritual support, and practical assistance to seniors, honoring their wisdom and contributions and strengthening our community. Community Outreaches Description: Includes annual events such as the Good Friday Festival (175 attendees), Back 2 School Outreach and School Supply Giveaway (supplies for 300 students), Cajun Thanksgiving, which is a feast cooked for the neighborhood by volunteers from our Hollygrove neighborhood (serving 250 people), and our Christmas Party & Toy Giveaway for 300 children. In addition, we also provide the JSTEP Christmas dinner, which is a semi-formal event that teaches the youth etiquette lessons through a festive meal, and our Christmas Senior Luncheon. These events offer practical support, such as school supplies and meals, while fostering community unity. Objective: Strengthen community bonds, meet practical needs, and share the love of Christ through fellowship and service. Food 4 Families Description: Provides nutritious food to families in need, ensuring that basic needs are met so individuals can focus on personal and spiritual growth. Includes quarterly food distribution, Thanksgiving Food Baskets, and Christmas Food Baskets. Annually we provide meals for hundreds of families. Objective: Address food insecurity and support the overall well-being of families in the community. Through this array of programs and services, Jesus Project Ministries creates a holistic support system that nurtures families and individuals physically, emotionally, academically, and spiritually. Our faith-based, community-centered approach fosters an environment where individuals are empowered to discover their purpose, develop their talents, and contribute positively to their community, all while growing in their personal relationship with Christ.
