About This Cause
Save By Faith Children Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged, at-risk youth by providing high-quality, consistent programming of organized sports and mentorship. Our organization’s programs, implemented by a well-trained staff, provide many opportunities for the reduction of juvenile delinquency, academic deficiency, and childhood obesity through necessary intervention. Supporting the development of knowledge, self-confidence, health consciousness, and physical ability, Save By Faith Children Foundation provides many youths with a thorough foundation for future success. Initiated by Kevin Smith, Save By Faith Children Foundation hopes to create a positive and rewarding experience for the youth in our community and enable them to achieve their true potential. We recognize that confidence and optimism are integral components of success; therefore, will provide our youth with a sense of purpose to inspire and open the doors of opportunity. Two additional cornerstones of our organization are education and health, as knowledge and physical well-being are vital attributes of an athlete. All of our activities revolve around instilling the importance of learning and growing as a person. Individual empowerment and self-determination are strong components of the Save By Faith Children Foundation. Established in July 2009, our grassroots organization was conceived and organized to address the social, educational, and recreational needs of the Chicago community, to counteract failure, and to assist in the successful transition to life in a positive environment. Our philosophy is centered on the thought that youth sports are not about only winning games or championships. It is our mission to use our programs to teach youth some of the skills necessary to be successful in life, such as good sportsmanship, loyalty, courage, honesty, integrity and self-belief. It is our overarching goal to foster personal excellence in athletics and in life. We are founded on principles of truth and dedicated to helping each person reach his or her individual potential by encouraging a belief in personal responsibility, instilling habits of hard work, and demonstrating passionate commitment to excellence. We teach the value of knowledge and character. Methodology In order to achieve our established objectives, Save By Faith Children Foundation will implement the following methodology. It was decided to follow this course of action based on the expertise of the Executive Director, as well as the success of similarly structured organizations. Save by Faith Children Foundation, Inc. is a human services agency providing opportunities, recreational activities, social service, and character building for low income children and families at risk in the inner city of Chicago, IL. We will provide guidance; resume writing, job application assistance, balancing awareness, and teenage prevention from gangs, drugs, and violence. Our focus is to help kids aged 13 to 18. We want to provide programs for kids to help get them off the streets. Save by Faith Children Foundation, Inc. will have 3 on 3 basketball tournaments and football tournaments. Also, we will provide professional development including: dress for success, resume writing, and filling out forms for college. Youth will be able to participate in character building, mentorship programs, and we will help teach youth reading skills. The Garfield, Austin, and Lawndale communities are the communities we will be servicing. Our 3 on 3 basketball tournaments will be held bi-monthly. We would like to have each of the three communities involved and have a total of 21 teams in each tournament. The tournaments will be open to young men aged 13 to 18. The tournaments will be held on the weekend on a Saturday. We are anticipating that the tournaments hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a team fee of $5 per participant which is drastically lower than traditional tournament fees. Each participant will receive a certificate and medal. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for each community. The top teams from the each community will come together to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall. The football tournaments will be set up very similar to our basketball tournaments. One major difference is that the teams will be 7 on 7 instead of 3 on 3. The teams will still be broken down into seven teams per the three communities. The entrance fee will still be $5 per participant. The tournaments will be held on the weekend on a Saturday. We are anticipating that the tournaments hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each participant will still receive a certificate and medal. The football tournaments will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for each community. The top teams from the each community will come together to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall. In our professional development program we will be teaching young men how to dress for business, business etiquette, what it takes to be successful, and how to respect your elders and teachers. We will have motivational speakers that come in and speak to the youth. The speakers will come in approximately once a week. The rest of the program will be an ongoing after school program held Monday through Friday
