Mission Statement

Rochester Community Robotics (RCR) is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 with the goal of exposing interested students to engineering and related technology careers through robotics programs. With the help of major corporations, RCR has helped hundreds of Rochester students to prepare for robotics events and competitions through fund-raising, financial advising and supporting overall team growth. We aim to inspire and motivate young people to pursue science and technology careers and become confident, self-reliant, responsible citizens poised to make a real difference in our world using a fun, creative, and unique environment that extends learning beyond the classroom.

About This Cause

Services We Provide Preparation and participation in engineering-related Activities RCR supports teams dedicated to science and technology, composed of students, community volunteers and adult mentors in related fields. The idea is to show students that technology fields hold many opportunities and that the basic concepts of science, math, engineering, and invention are exciting and interesting. Currently, we have eight member teams, but plan to grow in the future. Students must design, prototype and build a fully functional robot that must complete a game. RCR helps by assisting and organizing local off season events. Mentoring and Management Support RCR and its board members have a wealth of knowledge about starting up and maintaining robotics teams. When a team loses a key mentor, RCR steps in to help fill the void of needed leadership. We assist new schools with money management, seeing that new rookies teams must make up $6500 as a start up fee for a robotics program. We also provide guidance on how to create a fully functional team as well as obtaining volunteers and mentors. Team Fund Raising Most schools do not have an extra $6500, but want a robotics team. With it’s wealth of knowledge RCR helps teams with fund raising ideas. The monies from these fund raising events is then deposited into an RCR bank account. Financial Accounting Support Each new team receives an RCR bank account. As new teams are added, new accounts are created and rolled up to a main RCR account. Transactions can be done using web banking, debit cards and bank checks. RCR is also a 501(c)(3) registered corporation, which gives all monies flowing through its accounts tax-exempt status. RCR ensures proper financial accounting procedures are implemented and followed by each team. This oversight is extremely important to ensure funds are received and donations are used properly.
