About This Cause

Specially trained teams support medical staff to promote patient healing. We seek to provide superior education and support to volunteers and the facilities we serve. Our continuing education programs are open to volunteers of any pet therapy organization, for we wish to enhance the entire pet therapy community through our efforts. We provide guidance to health care and educational entities to implement or improve therapy animal programs within their facilities. CAT services are provided free of charge, with the highest levels of professionalism and organization. CAT provides liability and umbrella insurance coverage for all our volunteers, team testing and background checks, ensures annual animal vaccinations satisfy State standards, and we train our volunteers in HIPAA requirements. As a non-profit entity, we recruit and utilize volunteers to serve Florida communities and rely on annual volunteer dues, donations from individuals, corporations and grants for funding operations. What We Offer - Unconditional love, acceptance and encouragement to people in need by highly trained and friendly canine therapy teams. CAT pet therapy volunteer corps provide both animal-assisted activities (AAA) and animal-assisted therapy (AAT). AAA is defined as pet-centered visitation programs to enhance life quality or support educational programs in a variety of environments such as hospitals, special needs day care, retirement homes or reading intervention programs. AAT is goal-oriented treatment utilizing specially trained pet/handler teams to achieve specific physical, social, cognitive, or emotional goals with patients. AAT facilitates healing and improves self-esteem, lifts morale and reduces stress of patients and staff alike. CAT volunteers work within facilities to provide physical therapy, recreational therapy, occupational therapy, and healthcare-related support services through the use of our highly trained and tested volunteer dogs and their human partners. Our Pack Reader Program helps children build reading skills under the attentive ear of a canine companion. We volunteer within public and charter schools as well as established educational tutoring systems to support the efforts of children currently reading below their grade level, who have low self-esteem or who may be learning English as a second language.
