EQUINE AID

MONROE, Washington, 98272 United States

Mission Statement

Our Mission: "Providing lifetime sanctuary for equines and serving as a voice against all abuse." What this means to us is a commitment to quality care for our animals and speaking up for any person or animal facing unjust treatment. We include everyone, from any walk of life who is interested in equines and wants to participate in caring for the herds.

About This Cause

Equine Aid began as a privately funded rescue in 1999 when the founders, Doug Arneson and Geri Vincent, bought a farm in Monroe, WA. Donors wanted to help us rescue more equines and to receive tax receipts, so we filed for federal nonprofit status and were approved in October of 2008. The animals in our program are owner surrendered equines: those at risk of entering the slaughter pipeline through auctions or being given away. Our programs include community outreach, screened placement of our rescued equines and lifetime sanctuary for the animals who are not adopted. Since 2016 we are honored to be verified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries for our animal care and ethics. We received the Great Nonprofits highest rating, the Platinum Award, in 2023 due to our financial transparency. One of our policies is that the best interests of any animal accepted into our program will always be our priority. We only euthanize due to quality of life issues as recommended by our veterinarian. Once an animal enters our program we are committed to maintaining their health care for life and providing training as needed. We try to keep the animal's lives as natural as possible. They have access to hay 24/7, are kept barefoot and run in herds on our acreage. We separate out seniors and debilitated animals overnight, or as is best for them, to accommodate their needs. If an adopter cannot keep an animal we contractually require that the animal be returned to assure that they remain safe. Animals who are not adopted become part of our sanctuary program. We continue to provide their care for life or until adopted. We welcome volunteer assistance by those who are interested in equines as well as community service volunteers. We have no payed employees. We welcome visitors to our annual events or by appointment. Thank You
