Mission Statement

Wounded Warrior Homes provides Transitional Housing and Re-Integrative Case Management Services for post-9/11 Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

About This Cause

Wounded Warrior Homes provides affordable long term transitional housing, hands on resources, and a defined path for each service member to transition from active-duty military service to independent living as a veteran of foreign wars. Many single veterans do not have the resources or funds for independent living arrangements that most veterans with families have, while others lack resources for their ongoing medical and psychological treatment. Veterans are discharged with limited funds and they must wait months and sometimes years before they receive the VA benefits due to them. By providing a stable and nurturing living environment, we can reduce the incidence of homelessness and monitor and assist with the ongoing treatment and training new Vets may require. Our target population is single post 9/11 veterans of foreign wars, medically discharged and diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Post Traumatic Stress, who lack sufficient resources for their sustenance at the time of referral, and who are in need of continued outpatient treatment and/or training and in danger of becoming homeless. Veteran’s income is low – mid level military pay based on rank and disability rating. Veterans will pay rent commensurate with income. We expect our residences to be located in North County San Diego, near public transportation. The number of veterans that we serve will depend on the need for and availability of housing. Each veteran will have their own room. The funds will be used to provide housing for those in our program. The cost of housing in San Diego is high and will need to subsidize even with full occupancy and collection of affordable rent from program residents. In addition to housing, we work with a wide variety of other agencies to assure that our client has a clearly identified goals and a program designed to help them achieve those goals. It is expected that, at the end of two years, our clients will have developed the skills and supports that help them become as self-sufficient as possible and that they will graduate from our transitional housing program with alternate permanent housing secured.
