About This Cause
Zebra Youth was established in 2010 in response to the growing number of LGBTQ+ youth who are experiencing homelessness, bullying, extreme physical and sexual abuse, isolation from their families and a wide range of life challenges or setbacks. The primary goal is to meet the specialized needs of these at-risk youth by providing each young person being assisted by the Zebra Coalition with an individually tailored program. This focus on the individual helps to ensure that the intervention will ultimately guide them to recovery and stability. Zebra Youth is a very unique organization comprised of service groups, government agencies, social service providers, school, colleges, and universities. Each of these organizations is able to provide essential services in various ways for LGBTQ+ youth at risk or in need of safe haven. This includes temporary or emergency shelter, counseling services, emotional or spiritual guidance, substance abuse treatment and basic necessities of food, clothing and medical services as well as other important resources. Yet, none of the organizations provide a full continuum of services alone; hence the creation of Zebra Youth, which has created this continuum for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth (Zebra Youth).
