About This Cause
MISSION: Wild Mammal Care of Alabama provides compassionate care for Alabama's wildlife focusing on the rehabilitation of its indigenous injured and orphaned mammals for their return to a natural habitat; and advocating through education the importance of wildlife stewardship, the awarenss of human impact on wildlife and a responsible approach to the conservation of our ecosystem and natural habitat. HISTORY: WMCoA was founded in January 2010 after a local organization closed their mammal department of 32 years leaving our state's wild mammals and the people who find them few resources for rehabilitative care or advice. Permitted by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife and Fresh Water Fisheries, this non-profit organization under the IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) receives no government funding and is solely funded by our wildlife finders' and friends' monetary and in-kind donations. SERVICES: WMCoA's Hotline is manned 365 days a year providing information for all residents in Alabama's 67 counties regarding wild mammals or who have questions concerning other wildlife issues. Historically, 1000 patients are admitted annually resulting from 2000 phone calls. Educating the public through the Hotline and off-site visits, WMCoA also offers humane suggestions for managing the effects of inevitable human interaction with wildlife to help us co-exist peacefully and appreciate and enjoy many misunderstood wild species. Volunteers are an invaluable and treasured commodity performing a myriad of tasks facilitating the quality of care we provide our patients.
