Mission Statement
Care for Real, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, has been serving the Greater Edgewater community for over 50 years. Care for Real’s mission is to foster a healthy and equitable community by helping vulnerable neighbors overcome food insecurity with dignity. Through locations in Edgewater and Rogers Park, CfR provides food, clothing, pet food, referral, and additional services with compassion to improve the health and well-being of low-income residents to foster a stronger, healthier, equitable, and more stable community.
About This Cause
Community is at the heart of Care for Real. Care for Real (CfR), a 501©3 nonprofit organization has been serving the far northside of Chicago for more than 50 years. Since its founding, Care for Real has been about neighbors helping neighbors and continues to evolve to address the community’s changing needs. Care for Real partners with local businesses, faith communities, schools, elected officials, grocery partners, community groups, and neighbors to collect high-need items, volunteer their time, donate their resources, and serve as ambassadors of Care for Real to address the increased need for food assistance, clothing, referrals, and support. Care for Real welcomes neighbors residing in the 60640, 60660, 60645, 60626, and 60659 zip codes in need of food assistance. Care for Real operates food pantries four times a week at our main Edgewater location and twice a week in Rogers Park at 1545 W. Morse Ave. Clients are welcome to visit one pantry location once a week. Food pantry clients can also make an appointment to visit the clothing closet, receive pet food/supplies and personal care items once a month, and receive referrals for additional services.
