Mission Statement
CENAES mission is to eradicate illiteracy in the Spanish-speaking immigrant population.
About This Cause
CENAES offers three levels of literacy classes – free of charge – at various locations and times to best meet its students’ needs. Alongside these services, CENAES seeks to promote its students’ cultural opportunities, life skills, and self-esteem by offering periodic workshops and invitations to cultural events. The organization aims for each student to obtain the equivalent of one U.S. grade level in Spanish literacy per year. We believe that literacy in one’s native language is a necessary condition for self-improvement. It not only improves family relations, facilitates learning English, and provides for future citizenship opportunities, but is critical for many employment opportunities and to improve the literacy and academic outcomes of adult students’ children as well.
