Mission Statement
To conduct research on the efficacy and design for integrative medicine. To educate practitioners with an integrative medicine paradigm. To promote quality holistic health care customized to the individual patient. To provide the best of Eastern and Western Medicine
About This Cause
ICIM offers a type of Integrated Medicine that is unique. In this model, neither type of medicine is primary with the other viewed as complementary. Both are considered as necessary as dictated by a patient-centric approach with an interdisciplinary team of practitioners who jointly participate in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients. The full range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture, acupressure, tui na, qi gong, herbal and nutritional therapies), as well as other modalities such as music therapy, yoga, meditation, etc. are employed in concert with allopathic or “conventional medicine” to meet the needs of patients. ICIM is an innovative approach to recognizing the best of Eastern and Western Medicine and developing treatment plans that combine both traditions and are customized to the individual patient. Many patients cobble together a treatment plan that uses multiple modalities; ICIM enables this work to be done at the level of the practitioners who work shoulder to shoulder in the best interest of the patient In this way, the patient has access to an integrated assessment, diagnosis and treatment with a team of specialists. We are excited to provide information on our programs, how to access them and how to support ICIM. Please help ICIM, the International Center for Integrative Medicine . grow and increase the number of people served - Help us raise money and share our cause today! Thank you for participating in the adventure with us! Dr. Amy Matecki (Ying Li) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background Information Dr. Matecki is the Co-founder and Medical Director of the International Center for Integrative Medicine where she leads a group of multidisciplinary practitioners to expand the role of integrative medicine in clinical, research and education at Alameda Health System (AHS). She is a member of the clinical faculty and the Chief for Division of IntegrativeMedicine in the Department of Medicine AHS, a UCSF affiliate. Dr. Matecki has pioneered the acupuncture program and bridged Eastern and Western Medicine at the Alta Bates Summit Comprehensive Cancer Center since 2004 where she is currently the Medical Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Matecki is the principal investigator (PI) for ongoing acupuncture research for chronic post-chemotherapy fatigue in collaboration with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She presented her study on the safety and efficacy of Acupuncture for patients with Lymphedema at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Conference in October 2009. During 2009-2019, Dr. Matecki functioned as the Co-PI with Dr. Colin Feeney, on the first IRB approved acupuncture study at Highland Hospital looking at acupuncture feasibility for ICU patients. The research subjects in ICU who are seen by a team of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners supervised by Dr. Alex Feng. She continues to work on policy, protocol, safety and guidelines for Integrative Medicine with a team of physicians, nursing staff and multi-disciplinary health care providers. Integrating Chinese Medicine into conventional oncology practice, Dr. Matecki finds that using integrative medicine stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal, often reduces the pain and nausea that frequently accompany chemotherapy, and provides essential support pre-treatment, during and post-treatment. In many case level observations, she notes that the integration of Chinese Medicine may enhance cancer patients' quality of life. Grounded in both Eastern and Western medical theory and practice, Dr. Matecki is uniquely qualified to lead the research and education to the best of all medicine - a blend of East and West. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Amy Matecki appointed President of California Acupuncture Board August 25, 2017 AHS Chief of the Division of Integrative Medicine, Dr. Amy Matecki, has been appointed to the California Acupuncture Board by Governor Jerry Brown.
