Mission Statement
Our mission is to encourage women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
About This Cause
The Cedar Valley section of SWE was first dreamed to life by Kari Zache in 2009 after she moved to the Cedar Valley (Cedar Falls and Waterloo, Iowa) for her first job following graduation. Since beginning work in 2008, Kari felt a longing for the SWE 'family' she had fallen in love with in college. On March 16, 2009, she held the section's very first meeting at the Cedar Falls Public Library with 29 other female engineers. From this initial meeting, the section has blossomed to an 82 member section in its fifth year. Our section aims to provide its members opportunities to network and support each other as engineers, by connecting women from across local businesses, such as John Deere, Nestle, ConAgra, Viking Pump, and many more! A large focus of the Cedar Valley section is STEM Outreach, including events with Girl Scouts, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, Expanding Your Horizons Conference and local STEM Mentoring within the local Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.
