Mission Statement
About Us The North Shore Music Alliance is a parent organization behind the annual North Shore Chamber Music Festival, the Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund, and Music Makers International. Through its life-affirming performances, inspiring musical exploration talks, and pre-professional career development scholarships, The Music Makers strives to provide a substantial and deeply meaningful community-based arts experience that is at once entertaining, inspirational, and approachable. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in the United States and devoted to the cultural health of communities around the world that we love.
About This Cause
Our Educational Outreach From the start, our educational programming reached beyond the usual in our Creative Learning collaborations with the International Center on Deafness and the Arts, the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and the Betty Haag Academy of Music, all aimed at encouraging the youngest members of our community towards an interest in music. We also offer advanced and pre-professional level masterclasses aimed at encouraging the next generation into a career in music. And over the years have developed musical enrichment offerings for everyone, such as lively post-concert discussions, compelling lectures, and our signature Onstage/Offstage talks that offers the audience an illuminating and inspiring glimpse into the lives and careers of today’s busiest concert artists, both on the stage, and off. North Shore Chamber Music Festival Since its first concerts in 2011, the North Shore Chamber Music Festival has quickly grown to become one of the highlights of the Chicago summer classical music scene, providing the North Shore district with inspiring musical experiences of the same level of excellence as those found in the great halls of the world, but within an intimate environment that welcomes both connoisseurs of chamber music and concert goers who are new to classical music, and at an affordable price. Called an “inspired summer event not to be missed” by Chicago Classical Review and a “Chicago classical operation that thinks big. Very big. Internationally big” by the Chicago Tribune, the festival has become a magnet for today’s leading classical artists who travel to Northbrook for the opportunity to perform with each other and to work closely with emerging young musicians from Chicago and beyond. Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund The Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund was created in 2015 to celebrate and perpetuate the legacy and spirit of Arkady Fomin. Born in Riga, Latvia, Mr. Fomin was an internationally renowned violinist, beloved teacher, conductor, and member of the Dallas Symphony. His guiding light transformed the lives and careers of hundreds of artists, including many of today’s top performers, and now we carry Arkady’s torch forward to help mentor the next generation. The AFSF awards educational scholarships to highly gifted college and pre-college student musicians from around the world, assisting their artistic development, and supporting them in the most formative years of their lives with important career connections and guidance. Our award stipends are given on a non-competitive basis and intended to assist the student with their participation in important masterclasses and music festivals. Recipients are often invited to perform at the North Shore Chamber Music Festival, in Chicago, and at Music Makers International events around the world. Since its inception, the AFSF has proudly awarded scholarships to more than thirty gifted young musicians from Austria, Canada, China, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Latvia, Russia, South Korea, the United States, and Venezuela.
