BLUEFIELD PROJECT TO CURE FRONTOTEMPORAL DEMENTIA

SAN FRANCISCO, California, 94107 United States

Mission Statement

The Bluefield Project was established in 2010 to fund research directed towards curing frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Frontotemporal dementia is a devastating, early-onset degenerative brain disease and is recognized as a common cause of dementia in people under the age of 60 years. Often striking people in their prime, frontotemporal dementia is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the frontal portions of the brain, the regions responsible for language and behavior. Over the course of the disease, frontotemporal dementia patients may lose the ability behave appropriately, make judgments, communicate, and carry out daily activities. There are currently no treatments or cures for frontotemporal dementia, and generally patients die within five years of diagnosis.

About This Cause

The Bluefield Project, located in San Francisco, is a research consortium devoted to finding a treatment or cure for frontotemporal dementia (FTD). We currently fund 17 basic scientists and clinical researchers at top-tier institutions across the US to identify and develop ways to treat this devastating disease. In the past several years, this dedicated team has made remarkable progress. We have trained over 30 graduate students and post-doctoral students in the field of FTD research. Recently, a biotechnology company initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial in FTD patients using a drug identified by discoveries made by our research consortium.
