Mission Statement
The One More One Less Mentoring Program (OMOL) provides strong-chartered based mentors and community advocates who will work, promote and support positive growth, provide critical life changing skills and prepare and empower underprivileged and at-risk young men and women to become catalysts for positive social change in their community
About This Cause
Through the program’s initiative, the youth cultivate self-pride/respect, develop an understanding of the importance and value of education, make better life decisions, and learn about the significance of knowing their history and the importance of giving back. OMOL operates a comprehensive yearlong program on Saturdays from September through June. We currently partner with the Belmont Elementary School, in the greater Rosemont community. This partnership allows us to provide one to one and group mentoring and community outreach and support. After graduating Belmont Elem. School, students are allowed to continue to be a part of the program as we seek to establish a lifelong relationship with these young people and continue to instill in them the OMOL Core values that will ensure their success in high school and beyond. Our group sessions focus on STEM as well as conflict resolution strategies, respect, community service and health and wellness. There are guest speakers, special workshops, field trips and special community wide events to encourage and support the families of those attending the program. We currently have over 60 underserved/ at-risk youth ages 8–18 years old that is being served in various capacity throughout Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County. Our Mentors provide positive reinforcement and intervention and create gateways to success using five essential keys elements; Academics, Health/Wellness, Life Skills, Community Involvement and Parental Support. We also address various issues facing young people, such as bullying, conflict resolution, self-respect, self-worth and self-esteem, respect for others, history, health/wellness, and the value of education, short and long-term goals, community involvement and so much more. The program stresses the importance of education, explore opportunities outside their communities and bridge gaps between the youth and various elements of the community.
