Mission Statement

Our mission is to support Arlington's David M. Brown Planetarium and contribute to excellence in STEM education in Arlington County and the surrounding region.

About This Cause

The Friends of Arlington's David M. Brown Planetarium is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, incorporated in 2010 for the purpose of raising funds to renovate and update the facility, to enable it to meet STEM educational requirements for the Arlington Public Schools. Once this goal was met, and the planetarium was fully refurbished and updated, the Friends transitioned to ongoing support, raising funds to enhance the educational programming, encourage students to become involved in STEM learning experiences, support science teachers, and engage the public. The Friends established an annual college scholarship in memory of NASA astronaut David M. Brown, who grew up in Arlington and attended Arlington public schools. More recently, the Friends established a Teacher Grants program to assist Arlington teachers in obtaining training in STEM education. The Friends is an all-volunteer organization, relying on membership dues and donations for nearly all of its income. Additional information about the organization and its programs is available on its website.
