Mission Statement
Mission: To Improve the health, education and economic prosperity of rural villages in Guatemala. GOALS: 1.Improve the health status of the people in rural Guatemala 2.Support initiatives and activities to improve education in the community 3.Assist in identifying and implementing economic development We are a Seattle-based nonprofit health organization committed to improving the health, education and economic prosperity of rural villages in Guatemala. This is accomplished through visits by international health care teams and ongoing in-country programs in disease management, prenatal care, and public health improvement.. Our focus is to educate and empower village-based Guatemalan health workers to provide health care and promote health and disease prevention in their community. Our ultimate goal is that the communities will attain self-sufficiency and sustainability.
About This Cause
The GVH vision is to create self -sustaining programs by empowering local leaders, educating local health workers and developing micro business. GVH will build a community of advocacy both in the United States and Guatemala. Main Programs 1) Clinical Programs -International Team Medical Trips -Chronic Disease Management for Diabetes and Hypertension, and now Seizure Disorders -Prenatal Care with vitamins -Contraception 2) Health Education -Nutrition -Contraception -Alternatives to Violence 3) Public Health Improvement Projects -Preventive Dentistry -Deworming with Vitamin Supplementation -Supplements for Women of Childbearing Age with education -Home and Community Gardens -Composting Toilets -Nutritional support - currently with vitamins with plans to add a pilot on supplements for children (6 mos - 3 yrs) 4) Education -Construction of Education Center and programs for health worker training - from US health team and in support of Ministry of Health Programs -Scholarships for students training in Healthcare careers - Nursing and Lab Technician
