Mission Statement
Getting people outside is fundamental to advancing the mission of The Mountaineers. For over 110 years we have served as the foremost outdoor recreation organization of the Pacific Northwest dedicated to educating and inspiring people to explore the outdoors and conserve and steward public lands and waterways. Based in Seattle, Washington, we engage a community of over 280,000 outdoor adventurers across our seven branches in Western Washington, published books and magazine, youth and adult programs, social and email channels, and events. Our work is supported by Mountaineers Books, our publishing division, which offers over 700 book titles in outdoor recreation, sustainable lifestyle, and conservation advocacy.
About This Cause
The Mountaineers is an innovative partner in conservation stewardship and advocacy, leader in volunteer-led youth and adult outdoor education, and prolific publisher of books to inspire all people to get outside and connect with our wild places. With a membership of 14,000, it is inspiring to hear the many ways The Mountaineers bring value to our community. In 2020, 2,800 volunteers dedicated more than 54,000 reported hours of their time and energy to share their knowledge of the outdoors and help Mountaineers members gain the necessary skills to stay safe, aware, and ready for the outdoors. Connecting people with the outdoors is not only critical to their own health but to the health of our natural landscapes. Successful conservation depends on these connections because people will protect what they know and value. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, philanthropic revenue enhances our ability to deliver on our mission, and we rely on your donations to support our conservation efforts, youth outreach and access, publishing division, volunteer leadership development, scholarships, and more. Thank you for another year of adventuring with purpose, advocating for wild places, and welcoming the future generation of Mountaineers into our community.
