Mission Statement

Magic Bus empowers at-risk children and youth in India to break the cycle of poverty through education, leadership, and employment equality. Magic Bus is one of the largest direct delivery poverty alleviation organizations in India. Every week, our education and life skills programs reach nearly 400,000 children through 8,000 trained volunteer mentors and 1,500 employees in 22 states of India. Our Livelihoods (Employability Training) Program has provided job related training to more than 16,000 youth and jobs placement and retention support to more than 10,000 youth including girls.

About This Cause

Magic Bus works with underprivileged adolescents in the age group of 12 to 18+ years, enabling them to complete their formal education with a high level of skills to ensure that these young people have a high probability of completing graduation and acquiring employability skills thereby gaining stable employment and moving themselves and their families out of poverty. The majority of the children and youth we serve are first generation learners and benefit highly from mentoring and counseling. As adolescents graduate Senior Secondary School, they can transition to the Magic Bus Livelihoods Program for employability training and career services. Magic Bus prepares marginalized youth, ages 18 to 25, for the modern world of work and has established 40 Livelihood Centers that help youth, especially women, with a personalized, end-to-end solution including career guidance, core employability and skills training, financial literacy, digital skills, English language skills, and entrepreneurship training. The program provides employer/business exposure visits, and pre-and post-placement job support. The majority of youth trained and placed through us are the first ever in their family to hold a formal sector job. Magic Bus programs also focus on providing girls with equal access to education and livelihoods and to prevent girls in our programs from marrying under the legal age of 18 years. In 2017-18, not a single girl on the Magic Bus program was married before the age of 18 years. Furthermore, at Magic Bus both boys and girls are viewed as equal advocates for gender equality and both are an integral part of the intervention for changing prevailing gender norms. Magic Bus supporters include Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Ford Foundation, Mondelez, Tata Trusts, BMW, Comic Relief, Wimbledon Foundation, Barclays, Godrej, Hinduja family, Cyrus Poonawalla Group, Nestle, and HDFC.
