Mission Statement
The word advot means ripple in the Hebrew language. The Advot Project uses art-based curriculums to teach communication and relationship skills. Nurturing and equipping our youth to express their goals, needs, desires and fears allows them to reach their full potential. Empowered to self-advocate, our youth create ripples (“Advot”) of change, helping to create a world of equality and justice.
About This Cause
The Advot Project was founded on the premise that relationships are key to success, and that healthy communication is essential for healthy relationships. We believe social change happens when young people are equipped with the skills to advocate for themselves. The Advot Project focuses on underserved and often marginalized young people aged 13-23, offering them the communication skills that will help them navigate their way to a healthy and successful life. Through no fault of their own, the young people we work with face systemic challenges of generational poverty, domestic and community violence, racism, and limited access to quality education. As a result, many have a history with the juvenile justice system and are fighting for a chance to identify with and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. The challenges they have faced limit their life choices. Using theater arts to engage young people in creative problem solving allows them to identify alternate endings to interactions that got them into trouble in the past. We help youth uncover talent they didn’t know they had, solve problems in ways they hadn’t considered before, and practice or “rehearse” different ways of relating to authority figures and loved ones alike.
