CRISTO REY PHILADELPHIA HIGH SCHOOL

Mission Statement

Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, a college preparatory Catholic school for students of all faiths, nurtures and challenges young people to recognize and realize their full potential as they learn to love others, grow in their faiths, and serve the common good.

About This Cause

Cristo Rey Philadelphia is an independent (not District or Charter or Archdiocese), college prep, high school for students of all faiths. Cristo Rey is designed and operated exclusively for students who could not otherwise afford a private education. The Cristo Rey curriculum combines rigorous college prep academics with work internships in leading Philadelphia area businesses where the students are mentored by college educated adults. The work program accelerates the students’ development and the wages they earn from their work funds approximately 60% of the cost of their education. There are 32 Cristo Rey Network high schools operating successfully across the US with approximately 11,000 low-income students currently enrolled. This year, those students will earn more than $44 million via their Work-Study jobs to fund their own educations. Today, Cristo Rey Philadelphia serves 520 young men and women in grades 9-12. Ninety Philadelphia businesses and non-profit organizations provide meaningful jobs and a pathway to success for every student. We are “the school that works”. One hundred percent of our first graduates (2016 and 2017) were accepted to a four-year college.
