Mission Statement

The NW Innovation Resource Center is a nonprofit organization that assists entrepreneurs and inventors in northwest Washington in developing their individual business strategy and execution as they move from idea to success.

About This Cause

Established in 2010, the Northwest Innovation Resource Center (NWIRC) was founded on the principle that support of entrepreneurs is critical for the community, as well as economic health of the region. Today, the NWIRC supports inventors, startups and small businesses across all parts of northwest Washington state. The NWIRC encourages business leaders to share their knowledge and expertise with entrepreneurs, establishing a Just-In-Time Mentor process that permits an easy and productive way to connect mentors and NWIRC clients. We are conducting Innovation Cohorts for Bluetech & Cleantech as well as Data Technology Workshops for small businesses to learn how to utilize data for business operations and planning. Recently, the NWIRC launched Project ReInvent in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island and San Juan counties. The program is designed to provide direct support to small businesses and startups that are building or rebuilding their enterprises. Project ReInvent seeks to provide opportunities for dislocated workers to remain engaged in the business community as well as adding entrepreneurial skills, both of which may be advantageous to their job opportunities. The combination expands start-up activity in the region while also providing startups and established businesses with access to experienced and qualified talent. Dislocated workers who may be taking this time to develop their own ideas can become part of StartupNW, which provides resources to help workers start their business, from validating the ideas to seeking seed funding. One of these resources is TheLab@everett, the first innovation center to be located in Snohomish County, emphasizing technologies for the digital economy as applied to manufacturing, healthcare, food & agriculture. TheLab supports a broad array of disciplines and services, including design-thinking for new entrepreneurs and workshops for established businesses and community issues.
