Mission Statement
OPI is a local, grass-roots charity formed to build, restore and maintain soccer fields in the Portland Metro area so that players of all ages and skill levels have high-quality and safe playing surfaces to enjoy the beautiful game. Many of our City’s park facilities are over-used and under-improved. OPI improves communities through both volunteer-driven park repair projects and capital projects for deserving communities.
About This Cause
OPI currently conducts volunteer driven park repair projects in 3-4 city parks each summer. While most of the work is provided on a purely volunteer basis with support from Portland Parks and Recreation, our work could be expanded and improved with resources to pay for field improvement equipment (line stripers and paint), goal equipment and turf repair supplies (seed, sod, fertilizer, lime). Also, funding would help pay for certain supervision needed for technical work (sprinkler system repair) that cannot be fit into the City’s current budget. OPI has so far brought hundreds of hours of volunteer labor to Portland’s parks and schools resulting in the improvement of fields, city parks, goal hardware and irrigation equipment. Recently completed Bless Filed in North Portland is an excellent example of what OPI does. Bless Field is a youth sized all season pitch for t he kids of Portland’s New Columbia neighborhood. This community is home to nearly 1,200 kids from 22 countries speaking more than 11 different languages. Bless Field is a place where all of these kids can share the common language of the game. We are now raising funds for our next field of dreams. Join us in helping improve our parks and programing throughout the City of Portland.
